The mark 7 generation Ford Transit was introduced in 2007 and was produced up until 2013, over the years I have had many calls from irate Transit owners who have been left stranded because either their Transit van will not start, or the remote function is no longer working, locking them out of their van.

The reason this happens is simple, Ford in their infinite wisdom designed the blue key fob with a built in rechargeable battery to be charged whilst inserted into the vans ignition. This meant there is no user replaceable battery so when the unit failed to recharge you usually had to go to a Ford dealership to have the whole unit (blue fob) replaced at high expense to the owner as replacing the blue Ford transit fob can be considerably more expensive to buy than keys fobs with replaceable batteries. Ford initially for a couple years offered a replacement as a recall but this period has long ended leaving drivers having to fork out at some dealers in excess of £300 to have a new part supplied and programmed.

Ford dealers still supply and program the blue fobs, but in my experience they can take as long as 10 days, that's after you have had you van recovered to them, as the replacement key has to be diagnostically programmed directly into the vehicle.

One time I had a call from a very stressed tradesman who found himself in such a situation, having recovered his van to a Ford dealership was then told that it would take at least 10 days before they could do the job, but a kind soul told him of my services. I went down that same day and programmed him a new Blue fob with his van still on the ford dealers forecourt! I had him on his way within 30 mins of my arrival, now there's service!

So luckily there are alternatives to going to Ford, firstly there is the service of a professional Auto Locksmith, who can come to directly to your van and supply and program a new Ford Transit Blue remote into your van for you. The cost of this service varies depending on whether a new genuine Ford blue remote fob or an aftermarket fob is used, either way there is a saving to be made not only on the cost of the blue fobs but a massive saving of your valuable time especially if you rely on you van for work. I have on occasion programmed a customers supplied blue remote they have either bought as an ordered part only from Ford, or a used part from such places as EBAY. Yes a used part can be reused, so if you find a good condition used Ford Blue fob, the blade can be replaced to match your existing one, and the fob re programmed into your van.
